Dear parents and carers,

It was lovely to meet so many of you at our Parents’ Evenings this week. Thank you for taking the time to fill in the questionnaires giving us such valuable feedback and so many positive comments.

We are looking forward to the extra-curricular clubs starting next week. Many of the clubs are full and we have waiting lists for some, so please ensure that your child does attend and realises the importance of commitment to the club. If there is an exceptional reason that your child will not be able to attend one week, please ensure that you contact the office so that they can be marked as absent on the registers. This is also important for the safeguarding of the children. At the end of the club, the staff will take the children to the main entrance for collection by you at 4.15pm. If you have signed for your child to walk home, we will release them from there at this time.

Rewards Update

As a new leadership team, we have been reviewing the Behaviour Rewards System at Bracken Leas and wanted to let you know about the rewards going forward.

ABLE Awards- these awards recognise the Bracken Leas ethos of Achieve, Believe, Learn, Enjoy. They are special Headteacher Awards which will be given out half-termly to recognise children who have embraced all aspects of the school ethos. If your child is nominated for this award, you will be invited to attend the final Celebration Assembly of each half-term to mark your child’s exceptional achievements. (We will give you a week’s notice if your child is to receive one of these awards.) We believe this award will be seen as really desirable for the children and that they will strive to achieve it and feel honoured to receive it. There is a surprise element also to this award which will be revealed once the first awards have been nominated next week!

Merits- these are given in recognition of exceptional pieces of work; fantastic effort; perseverance and determination. These are awarded weekly in the Celebration Assembly and the teachers will award as many as are deserved on a weekly basis.

Star of the Week– every week in Celebration Assembly, the teachers nominate a star of the week for their class and give the reasons for their choice.

Housepoints – given as usual to all children for many different reasons. All of the housepoints are collected on a weekly basis and the house captains reveal the winning total in Celebration Assembly every Friday. Individually every child has a housepoint card and they are aiming to collect housepoints to receive a badge. 70 points= colour badge; 150 points= Bronze badge; 240 points= Silver badge; 340 points= Gold.

EYFS- the reward system we have in place is appropriate to age and as such children are rewarded in the moment. This ensures that they are recognised instantly for their achievements. In addition, they are being introduced to the house point system and are learning about its value. Finally, there is Star of the Day chosen by the teacher every day. In time the children will join whole-school Celebration Assembly over the course of the year.

Absence due to sickness

At this time of year absence due to sickness tends to increase with the onset of the winter months. Please can we remind you that, in line with school policy, if children have sickness/diarrhoea they need to be kept at home for 48 hours after their last episode of this. This will really help us to prevent further spread in school. If your child tells us that they have been sick during a recent absence, as we have a duty of care to all children, we will contact you to ask that they are taken home should the ‘48 hours free of symptoms’ period not have elapsed.

Many thanks for your ongoing support. Have an enjoyable weekend.

Have you signed up to follow us @brackenleas1? Every week we use social media to keep parents and carers informed about what is happening at our school. Our Twitter feed is the simplest way for you to receive up to the minute information, photos, links and notifications. It is also FREE to use. Twitter is our preferred method of communication for this reason. The alternative is text messages to parents which incurs considerable cost to the school each year. Please Click here to follow a few simple steps and sign up to follow us on Twitter. Make us a favourite and receive instant notifications every time we Tweet. In this way you can help us minimise the cost of expensive text options.

Our Twitter Feed can also be viewed ‘live’ on the school website Home Page and News Page.

Once this stock has gone they will no longer be producing school uniform and parents can now only order items from them that are in stock.

T King Associates are our new supplier. They may be contacted on 01280 824836 or at

Our uniform items can be accessed via the ‘Schools’ tab on their website for online ordering.

As before orders can be placed online and delivered to school for free, or delivered to home for a small charge. Alternatively, uniform may be collected directly from the premises in Buckingham.

FOBL Fashion Show

The day is fast approaching, next Wednesday the 11th October is the date of the FOBL Children’s Fashion Show. Doors open at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start. All are welcome to come along on the evening, watch the children perform in the show and then afterwards, browse the selection of clothes on offer. The company providing the clothes offer good quality with reasonable prices, they also provide a “no quibble” returns policy.
