The last two weeks at Bracken Leas have been very busy with lots of sporting events taking place. This is a round up of how we have been doing.
Cluster Cross Country
Last Wednesday more than 100 children attended the Cluster Cross Country at Brackley Junior School. As always there was a fantastic atmosphere and a great afternoon of competition. Well done to everyone who took part, we came 3rd overall and also took 1st place in the Year 1/2 race and 3rd place in the Year 5/6 competitions. The children showed great competitive team spirit and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Hawsmoor Learning Trust Swimming Gala – Towcester Swimming Pool
On Tuesday Mrs Messer took a group of our Year 5 children to a trust swimming gala with Nicholas Hawksmoor Primary School. There was amazing effort and achievement from our children with some outstanding swimming, fantastic team spirit and super sportsmanship. It was a close result leading us to achieve ‘runner up’ in the competition.
South Northamptonshire Archery Competition – Sponne
On Tuesday Mr Moreby took a group of Year 5 children to Sponne to compete in an area Archery competition with 11 other schools. We placed a commendable 5th in the competition with everyone making a great effort.
Upcoming Sporting Events
Year 5 and Year 6 children will be taking part in a Swimming Gala to be held in Daventry on 21st May. In addition, Year 3 are taking part in a tri-golf competition at Sponne next week. We wish all of our competitors the best of luck in these competitions.
Next term is always the busiest on our sporting calendar, with many events scheduled as well as our own Sports Days across the school. More information on these events will follow in due course.
Brackley Carnival – ‘A Night at the Movies’ with Bracken Leas
Join us by taking part in Brackley Carnival on Saturday 8th June. Organised by our amazing ‘Team FOBL’, the parade will leave from Bracken Leas School. For anyone that has not been to the carnival before we process down to Magdalen College School in town where the winners of the best entry will be announced.
This year our theme is ‘A Night at the Movies’. You could choose to dress up as any movie character, super star, popcorn seller or get out your best red carpet outfit. Don’t forget adults get to dress up too! Come and find our FOBL ladies in the playground after school and sign up to take part.
In addition, FOBL are organising a few after school craft sessions to add more pizzazz to our entry. Spaces are limited and you will need to sign up for these if your child would like to join in. Alternatively, perhaps you could make some additional props over the half term holidays.
Carnival Fundraising Stall
We will also be having a fundraising stall at Magdalen on the day. This year we have decided to run a tombola stall alongside refreshments. If you have any items for the tombola it would be very much appreciated. You can drop them in to the office over the next few weeks.
All funds raised by this will be going towards the refurbishment of the adventure playground. We are hoping to raise £5000, so any donations for our tombola and support you can give would be wonderful.
We are receiving an increasing number of requests for absence and holiday in term time. As you know, we are only able to authorise leave in exceptional circumstances and these cases are considered individually. Any requests for absence should be passed to the office in writing well in advance of the event. All family holiday requests in term time will be recorded as unauthorised.
As always, we monitor attendance closely. Mrs Lewis, our Assistant Head, follows up individual concerns about attendance and will arrange meetings accordingly. ‘Good’ attendance for a pupil is 95% + and attendance which falls below this impacts on learning and overall progress.
In terms of illness, most children battle through colds and sniffles if they are dosed up, but we ask for your support in keeping children off school for 48 hours following the last episode of sickness or diarrhoea. This is essential to prevent the spread of germs for all children and staff.
Should your child require medication within school we would ask that you complete and sign a consent form.
