Dear Parents/ Carers,

Welcome back to a new and exciting year ahead at Bracken Leas. The children have bounced back into their new classes with positive attitudes and enthusiasm. We started the year with an assembly about ‘Challenge’. Finding ways to challenge ourselves and try new things is going to be an ongoing theme this year.

Summer Improvements

You may have noticed a hive of activity at Bracken Leas over the summer with two big projects coming to fruition. Outside the year 1 and 2 classrooms, we have removed all the wooden beds and resurfaced the playground area. This has enabled us to double the amount of space available for playtime and now we are able to zone our playtime space at lunchtime effectively. We aim to finish the work with new playground markings, more benches and play equipment.

Stepping Stones have completed work on the ‘Yellow room’ and we are proud to have preschool provision now open at Bracken Leas run by the Stepping Stones team. You will see the outside play area for the children alongside our Reception classrooms. I know that we are all looking forward to working together and sharing resources.

With thanks to you and FOBL fundraising, two more interactive boards have been installed in classrooms completing the KS2 project. This would not have been possible without your very generous donations and the hard work of the FOBL team. It is great to see that the Warrior Challenge has raised over £3000 and this will go towards repairing and improving the wooden adventure playground at the end of the field.

Improving the learning environment and taking pride in looking after the building we all share, lifts us all and further proves our commitment to being excellent in all that we do. Further to the Art room revamp last year, we have cleared storage in another room next to it and this will now be the dedicated music room for all NMPAT music lessons, choir and orchestra.

A few reminders…

PE Lessons and Kits: All pupils in KS1 and KS2 have PE lessons timetabled twice a week. Depending on the unit and skills being taught, the lessons could be inside or outside. The children will go outside in colder weather. Therefore please can you ensure that your child has a warm jumper and tracksuit bottoms in their PE kit with a light rain jacket and trainers to be best equipped for outdoor PE.

Parking: Please remember to be considerate and respectful when you are parking. We are part of a community and all of the local residents need to be able to access their drives and houses easily. The school car park is for staff only at all times unless you are using disabled parking access.

Extra-curricular Clubs: We are currently reviewing our provision for clubs and will send out the information for booking next week. Some paid clubs through external providers have already started.

As parents, your voice is important to us and working in partnership with you is crucial to your child’s success and happiness. My door is always open if you have any questions or would like to discuss anything. If you are a new family to us, we welcome you to Bracken Leas and look forward to getting to know you more as the weeks progress.

I look forward to a great term ahead!

Kind regards,

Mrs P Harwood

Aldi’s Kit For Schools

This September, Aldi’s Kit for Schools is giving 20 primary schools the chance to win £20,000 to kick start a health legacy for pupils. The Get Stuck In resources offer support to launch the campaign in schools and a range of fun activities to enthuse pupils about healthy eating, exercise and other healthy habits, while developing higher-order thinking skills.

Taking part:

  • Collect. please pick up the Team GB stickers whenever you spend £30 in any Aldi store!
  • Bring the stickers to school and stick them on the poster (to be displayed in the school hall). Once we collect 300 Team GB stickers we could receive an exclusive school sports kit and be in with the chance to win one of 20 prizes of £20,000 to build a health legacy at Bracken Leas

We are asking all our pupils, their families (and even their extended families) to keep an eye out for the stickers and send them in as soon as you can.

Many thanks for your co-operation and happy collecting!
