At Bracken Leas we go out of our way to promote healthy lifestyles. As well as being accredited as a ‘Healthy School’ we have also gained the School Games Mark at bronze level. We believe that all children should be able to lead a healthy lifestyle, as such we like to get everybody involved in our activities and make sure they have fun at the same time.
Every year we have over 300 children representing our school, each one of them being great ambassadors. We have been to a range of different sporting events and qualified for district level competitions. We have also brought home a number of different trophies. At one swimming event we even took the trophy there and managed to bring it back home again. We have been crowned County Champions in many different events such as athletics and rugby.
In our school we have a total of 37 Sports crew members this year. In Sports Crew there are three different jobs that the children were able to apply for-Activity Leader, Marketing and Media Leader. As an activity leader you are in charge of running events each lunch time. Every month they will run a competition for all of the year groups to take part in. Whilst the event is taking place Marketing will be giving out stickers to people who are being kind and a good team person. At the end of each term we will be giving out a trophy to the class with the most stickers. After the competitions marketing will then make a certificate for 3rd, 2nd and 1st place, which they will then give out in the next key stage assembly. Media Leaders will go to competitions and take photos of what is happening and then they will write a blog about the competition. We will also be doing a weekly newsletter about all the events we have done in that week. Some of the competitions we do are: football; tag rugby; tennis; tri golf; hockey; handball; basketball; cricket and rounders.
